Learning Theory
This project is primarily informed by socio-cultural theories on how people learn through social interactions. At the center is Vygotsky’s theory of internalization (1978, 1986). This theory falls within the progression of a person through the Zone of Proximal Development. In this model, learning is initially mediated through semiotic (linguistic) negotiation with others. But once concepts are internalized they are taken on in the learner’s own voice.
Pleasure to Meet Me also takes into account the work of notions of personal narrative as a vehicle for metacognition and internalization of concepts (Ball, 2009).

Comprehensive Sexual Education Approach
This project is also informed by a Comprehensive approach to sexual education. This approach takes a positive view of healthy sexuality. Here, sex
is viewed as a source of pleasure, which needs to
be understood and appreciated for better
mental, physical, social and spiritual health.
This is a departure from a Behavior Change Approach which is based on sexual morality, restraint and the sole reduction of teen pregnancies and STDs. This approach overwhelmingly promotes abstinence.
